On St. Joseph’s Day, the Last Reprieve from Lent

The family is watching Disney’s “Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang” is a Belfast theater.

Now two days past Patrick’s Day, as the Irish in the Republic call it, we mark the only other break from Lenten fasting and occasional abstinence today.

I offer images of Jameson’s, the supposedly “RC” whiskey and Bushmill’s, the supposedly “others” whiskey. The Armagh flag is for the Northern Island county that my grandmother Delia left behind her.

And, of course, a salute to Kenneth Branagh’s magnificent “Belfast” where the “hard men” – Orange in the film but easily could have been IRA on the other side of the barricade — ruled in “The Troubles.”
