Good Morning, Murder!
On this brilliant, but cold mid-January Sunday morning, the side of the manse looking back toward the forest and down the slope to the watershed of Olde Creek [the extra e, not a personal affectation] was filled with dozens of crows pecking at winter brown grass. Another murder, as a group of crows are also known, filled the cleared of trees field of the neighboring estate.
The scene brought to mind the 2018 mystery novel set in the Army’s old Cameron Station in Alexandria, Virginia, written by a friend, John Molino, “Murder Gets Even.” Crows and human murders have been linked in literature, drama, film, television.

Be especially wary of any gathering of crows!
